Testing the Mexican Beetle's Hall Sensor (Quick Test)

A very simple way to test to see if the hall sensor is working (without any diagnostics equipment) is the following:-

- Remove the distributor cap

- Switch on the ignition. Do not start the engine !!

- You should now hear the fuel pump relay click and the fuel pump should run for about one second. If it doesn't run at all or runs longer than one second then the fuel pump relay (N80) is faulty.

- Use a 21mm spanner to rotate the alternator slowly. This will also rotate the crankshaft.

- You should now hear the fuel pump relay click again and the fuel pump should run again for about one second.

- Now rotate the alternator until the distributor rotor arm rotates a further 90°. You should now hear the fuel pump relay click and the fuel pump should run again for about one second.

- Repeat this process for the other three cylinders. The same should happen on the other cylinders.

This test should confirm whether the hall sensor is faulty or not.
